Is Pest Control Considered Necessary?

Pest control is an important part of keeping a house in a sanitary condition. Besides causing unsightly conditions, pests can carry diseases, such as ticks and mosquitoes. Some of these insects can breed in standing water, and their eggs can hatch and cause a lot of harm to your health.

Rodents

When you’re concerned about rodents, it’s important to know that your home is not only a good place for them to live, but that they can also cause serious health issues. The main source of rat-borne disease transmission is their droppings. Unlike humans, rats have no sense of hygiene, so they often leave their droppings all over your home.

There are several different techniques and products available to kill rodents. Some of them are natural and non-toxic, while others are based on chemicals or natural ingredients. Some methods of rodent control are more effective than others. Whether you’re treating a home or a commercial property, you’ll want to find the best solution to combat rodents.

Termites

Termites can be serious pests and can cause extensive damage to your home. While they cannot damage concrete, they can destroy wood structures and nearby wood sources. When their colonies become overcrowded, they will swarm and emerge with wings in search of new homes. If you find a large number of termites, termite control is a good idea. But, you need to know when termites are infesting your home to make sure you can protect yourself from the damage they can cause.

There are three main types of termites – subterranean termites, damp wood termites, and dry wood termites. Each type has different biology and behavior. The best way to determine which type of termite you have is to look for signs of damage. For instance, if your walls have holes, it’s likely that termites are present.

Mice

Mice can cause significant damage to your home and business, and they are also a health hazard. They gnaw and destroy the food and items you store, and their urine and saliva are highly infectious. They have also been linked to floods and electrical fires. They also breed quickly and can cause extensive damage to your property. Luckily, there are ways to control your mice infestation without hiring a pest control expert.

Baits can be placed around your home to control mice. These contain grains that attract mice. They are available in cellophane or plastic packets and can be placed in areas they can enter. However, you should avoid baiting yourself because it is dangerous for humans and pets. Besides baits, you can also take steps to prevent mice from invading your home. One way to do this is by cutting back shrubs. Additionally, you should keep wood piles at least 20 feet away from the foundation of your house.

Rats

Rats are a pest that can cause damage to your home and property. The burrowing habits of these rodents can cause a collapse of structures, and their constant chewing can damage your belongings. They have been known to cause power outages, computer crashes, and even human deaths. They are also known to start at least 25 percent of all fires.

Rats can be difficult to eradicate, but there are ways to keep them from coming back. For example, keep your trash picked up and in rat-proof containers. Also, seal any existing entry holes, and inspect your property for new holes.
